Why visit Madaba?

Madaba is a small town in eastern Ruvuma Region, close to the Ruvuma River that forms the border with Mozambique. It serves as a local market centre for the surrounding agricultural area, where cashew nuts, maize, and sesame are the main crops. The area is rural and sparsely populated, with miombo woodland covering much of the landscape.

Madaba is remote and undeveloped for tourism. Its main significance is as a minor administrative centre in the eastern part of Ruvuma Region. The climate is tropical with a distinct wet season from November to May.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is Songea Airport (SGX), approximately 200 km west.

By Car / Road

Madaba is accessible by road from Songea (about 4-5 hours east) and from Tunduru. The road is unpaved and can be difficult in the wet season.

Madaba is very small and entirely walkable.
