San Pablo

San Pedro, Paraguay

Why visit San Pablo?

San Pablo is a district in the center of San Pedro department, about 330 km from Asunción, on the Río Jejuí Guazú. It was originally called Cocueré, an ancient Guaná indigenous settlement, and was elevated to formal district status on 24 December 1979. Covering about 603 km² with a modest population (around 4,350 at last count), it holds some of the department's richest remaining tracts of tall native forest. The Jejuí Guazú, considered among the least polluted rivers in Paraguay, runs through the district and is noted for stretches of white sand along its banks. The local economy is agricultural — cotton, tobacco, soy, yerba mate, cassava, sunflower, and citrus are the main crops.
