San Estanislao

San Estanislao is a historic town in central San Pedro department, originally established as a Jesuit mission (reduction) in the 17th century. It is one of the oldest settlements in eastern Paraguay and retains a colonial-era church and plaza. The town is an agricultural centre for the surrounding cotton and soy region. The name is sometimes shortened to "Santani" by locals. The climate is subtropical; best visited May–September.

San Estanislao is on Route PY03, about 180 km northeast of Asunción (2.5 hr) and 50 km north of San Pedro de Ycuamandiyú (40 min). Buses from Asunción run every 1–2 hr (GS.35,000–55,000).
