Why visit San Juan Bautista de Neembucu?

San Juan Bautista de Ñeembucú is a town in Ñeembucú department, not to be confused with San Juan Bautista, the capital of Misiones department. It began as Posta San Juan, a rest stop for cattlemen driving herds through the region's green pastures, and was formally founded on June 24, 1848 — the feast day of St. John the Baptist, for whom it is named. For 174 years after its founding, the town remained largely cut off, without a paved road connection; a 24-km asphalt road linking it to Pilar and Asunción was finally completed in 2022, along with local improvements including paving around the parish and the Laguna Maka area. The district's population is around 6,000. The climate is subtropical; best visited May–September.
