Why visit Ilam?
Ilam is a picturesque hill town in the easternmost hills of Nepal, renowned across the country for its lush tea gardens, serene landscapes, and panoramic views of the Himalayan range including Kanchenjunga. At an elevation of approximately 1,200 m, Ilam's rolling green hills are covered with carefully manicured tea plantations that produce some of Nepal's finest orthodox teas. The town has a relaxed, almost resort-like atmosphere and is increasingly popular as a weekend getaway.
The climate is subtropical highland with mild summers, a monsoon from June to September, and cool winters (December–February). The best times to visit are March–May (tea-plucking season) and September–November (clear mountain views). The town is spread along a ridge with the main bazaar at its centre.
