Why visit Kanchenjunga Conservation Area?

Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is a protected region in the far north-eastern corner of Nepal, centred on the massive Kanchenjunga massif – the world's third-highest mountain at 8,586 m. Covering 2,035 km², it encompasses the Kanchenjunga Himal range, diverse ecosystems from subtropical forests to high-altitude glaciers, and the traditional homeland of the Limbu and Sherpa peoples. The area is renowned for its remote wilderness, spectacular mountain scenery, and the cultural heritage of the communities living within its boundaries.

The best trekking seasons are March–May and September–November. Winters are severe with heavy snow, and the monsoon (June–September) brings heavy rain and leeches in the lower forests. The conservation area is managed in partnership with local communities and the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP).
