About Dharan
Dharan is a sub-metropolitan city nestled at the foothills of the Mahabharata Range in eastern Nepal, serving as the gateway to the hills of Koshi Province. Situated at an elevation of 365 m, it enjoys a pleasant year-round climate and a strategic position where the Terai plains meet the mid-hills. The city grew around the British Gurkha recruitment centre and later became the home of the Nepali Army's Eastern Division headquarters.
Dharan experiences a subtropical climate with warm summers, a monsoon season from June to September, and mild winters. The best times to visit are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). The city is arranged around several main chowks including Chata Chowk and Bhanu Chowk, with residential areas climbing the surrounding hillsides.
