About Mariental

Mariental is the capital of the Hardap Region, situated on the banks of the Fish River in south-central Namibia. The town was established in 1920 and named after Maria, the wife of an early farmer. It serves as a service centre for the surrounding farming communities and is the gateway to the Hardap Dam Recreation Resort, one of Namibia's largest dams. The town has a relaxed small-town character with good facilities for travellers.

Mariental is on the B1 highway, 280 km south of Windhoek and 200 km north of Keetmanshoop. The road is paved and in good condition.

The town is compact and walkable. Taxis are available for local transport.
