Aranos is a town of around 5,500 people in the Hardap Region, situated in the Nossob River basin on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Founded in the early 20th century as a farming settlement, it takes its name from the seasonal Aranos River. Sheep, cattle, and goat farming are the main economic activities, supported by borehole irrigation and a local abattoir that processes livestock for domestic and export markets. Aranos sits on the B1 road and serves as a transit point for travelers heading toward Botswana's Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and Ghanzi.
