About Gangaw

Gangaw is a remote town in the western part of Magway Region, located at the foot of the Chin Hills in a valley of the Yaw River. It is the administrative centre of Gangaw District and serves as a gateway to the Chin and Naga hill regions. The area is ethnically diverse, with a mix of Burmese, Chin, and other hill-tribe communities. The town has a frontier character and sees very few visitors.

The climate is moderate compared to the rest of Magway Region, with cooler temperatures due to the higher elevation. The cool season from November to February is the best time to visit. The surrounding landscape features forested hills and river valleys.
