Chauk

Magway, Myanmar

Why visit Chauk?

Chauk is a town in northwestern Magway Region, located on the eastern bank of the Irrawaddy River. It is an important oil and gas town, with significant petroleum production and a large fertiliser plant. Chauk also serves as a port for river traffic on the Irrawaddy. The town has a functional industrial character and is not a tourist destination, but its lively river port and nearby oil fields offer a glimpse into Myanmar's energy industry.

The climate is extremely hot and dry, typical of central Myanmar's dry zone. The cool season from November to February is the most comfortable time to visit.
