Terre Rouge

Terre Rouge is a village in the southern part of the Pamplemousses District, located near the boundary with Port Louis. The name means "red earth" in French. It is a working-class residential area closely linked to the capital, with many residents commuting to Port Louis for work. The village has a lively market and a strong community feel.

Terre Rouge is 5 km north of Port Louis on the main road to Grand Baie. Buses from Port Louis serve the area every 10–15 minutes. A taxi from Port Louis costs around MUR 200.

The village is walkable, with shops and services clustered along the main road. Local buses connect to Port Louis and the north coast.

The residential neighbourhoods with colourful Creole houses. The local market is a hub of activity. The church is a community landmark.
