Mont Choisy

Mont Choisy is a coastal suburb on the northwest coast of Mauritius, situated just south of Grand Baie. Its beach, Mont Choisy Beach, is one of the longest and widest on the island — a magnificent sweep of soft white sand with calm, shallow water ideal for swimming. The area is less crowded than nearby Grand Baie and has a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Mont Choisy is 2 km south of Grand Baie on the coastal road. Buses from Grand Baie and Port Louis serve the area every 15 minutes. A taxi from Grand Baie costs around MUR 150.

The beach is easily explored on foot for its full length. Buses and taxis connect to Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches, and Port Louis.

Mont Choisy Beach is the main attraction — a broad white-sand beach fringed with casuarina trees. The water is calm and clear, making it one of the safest swimming beaches in Mauritius.

Swimming and wading in the shallow lagoon. Long walks along the beach at sunrise or sunset. Snorkelling near the reef edge. Kite surfing and windsurfing when the trade winds pick up.

Several beachfront restaurants and snack kiosks serve Creole cuisine, grilled fish, burgers, and cold drinks. The nearby resort hotels also have restaurants open to non-guests.

Beach kiosks serve fresh coconut water, beer, and soft drinks. The resort bars offer a wider selection of cocktails.

Mont Choisy has several hotels and self-catering apartments ranging from budget (MUR 2,000) to mid-range (MUR 6,000–10,000 per night). The nearby Grand Baie has more upscale options.

Small shops near the beach sell drinks, snacks, and beach essentials. For more shopping, Grand Baie is 2 km north.
