Tamchy
Ysyk-Köl, Kyrgyzstan
Why visit Tamchy?
Tamchy (Kyrgyz: Тамчы) is a small village on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, about 220 km east of Bishkek and 48 km west of Cholpon-Ata. It is a wonderful place to experience the lake, with a relaxed beach atmosphere and basic tourist infrastructure.
Tamchy is best known as the location of Issyk-Kul International Airport (IKU IATA), which serves the lake region with summer flights. The village is very small — easily walkable — with streets leading south from the main road (Manas Street) toward the beach. The climate is mild in summer (25-30°C). The peak season is June to September; outside of summer, most facilities close.
