Bokonbaevo

Bokonbaevo (Kyrgyz: Боконбаево) is a village on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, about 100 km east of Balykchy and 100 km west of Karakol. It is the administrative centre of the southern Issyk-Kul district, with a population of about 12,000. The village is named after a Kyrgyz Soviet writer.

Bokonbaevo is the main settlement on the quieter, less-developed southern shore, offering a more relaxed experience than the busy northern resorts. The climate is continental: warm summers (25-30°C) and cold winters (-5 to -15°C). Summer is the main tourist season.

By Car / Road

Marshrutkas from Balykchy (southern route) take about 2 hours (150–250 som). From Karakol, about 2 hours (150–250 som). Shared taxis from Balykchy cost 500–800 som.
