Why visit Kyzyl-Suu?

Kyzyl-Suu (Kyrgyz: Кызыл-Суу, meaning "Red Water") is a village on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, about 40 km east of Bokonbaevo and 60 km west of Karakol. Formerly known as Pokrovka during the Soviet era, it is one of several settlements along the southern lake road. The population is about 5,000.

The village is an agricultural centre with orchards and livestock, and serves as a quiet alternative to the busier northern shore resorts. The climate is continental: warm summers (25-30°C) and cold winters (-5 to -15°C).
