Osaki
Miyagi, Japan
Why visit Osaki?
Osaki (大崎) is a city in northern Miyagi Prefecture, formed through the merger of several towns. The city serves as a transport hub between Sendai and the Tohoku interior, and is known for its agricultural production, particularly rice from the surrounding Kitakami River plain.
Osaki's most significant attraction is the historic Zuigan-ji Temple, a Zen Buddhist temple with deep cultural connections. This temple is closely tied to the Date clan who ruled the Sendai domain during the Edo period. The city also has access to the scenic Naruko Gorge area.
The climate has warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The best times to visit are spring (May) and autumn (October) for comfortable weather.
