Ibusuki

Kagoshima, Japan

Why visit Ibusuki?

Ibusuki (指宿) is a city on the Satsuma Peninsula in southern Kagoshima Prefecture, famous for its unique sand baths (sunamushi) on the beach — you are buried in naturally heated volcanic sand while looking out at the Pacific. The city is also known for its onsen, subtropical climate, and the dramatic views of Kaimondake, a perfectly cone-shaped volcano often called "Satsuma Fuji." Spring and autumn are ideal; the sand baths can be enjoyed year-round.
