Capracotta
Molise, Italy
Why visit Capracotta?
Capracotta is a comune in the province of Isernia, Molise, roughly 45 km northwest of Campobasso and 25 km north of Isernia. At 1,421 metres above sea level it is one of the highest municipalities in central Italy. The town has a historic ski club founded in 1914, reflecting its long relationship with mountain snow. On 5 March 2015, Capracotta recorded one of the most extreme 24-hour snowfall totals ever measured in Italy, drawing brief international attention (the precise Guinness-recognized figure has since been the subject of some dispute among meteorologists, with corrected estimates lower than the initial report).
