Campobasso

Molise, Italy

Why visit Campobasso?

Campobasso is the capital of the Molise region, founded before the 8th century as a garrison town. It is historically known for its craftsmanship in producing steel blades, and has a population of around 49,000. The name means literally "low field," though the city itself sits at an elevation of 701 metres in the Apennines and can be quite cold in winter. The Castello Monforte overlooks the city and offers panoramic views, and the Museo Sannitico houses artifacts from the region's ancient Samnite culture.
