Lore Lindu National Park

Sulawesi, Indonesia

Why visit Lore Lindu National Park?

Lore Lindu National Park is a 2,290 km² protected area in Central Sulawesi, surrounding the Lindu Valley and Lake Lindu in the highlands south of Palu. Established in 1982, it protects one of Sulawesi's most important rainforest blocks and a unique upland ecosystem that transitions from lowland forest to sub-alpine vegetation on Mount Rorekatimbu and Mount Nokilalaki, which rise to over 2,600 m.

The park is a stronghold for the island's endemic wildlife, including the anoa (dwarf buffalo), Tonkean macaque, babirusa, and the striking maleo bird. Over 200 bird species inhabit the park. The Lindu Valley is also home to the Kaili and Lindu people, traditional communities who farm rice and coffee in the shadow of the mountains.

The climate is wet tropical, with heaviest rainfall November–April. Temperatures range from 20–30°C in the lowlands to 10–20°C at higher elevations. The dry season (June–October) offers the best hiking conditions.
