Why visit Grande-Saline?
Grande-Saline is a small coastal commune in the Artibonite department, located on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Gonâve, approximately 30 km southwest of Gonaïves. The town is known for its artisanal salt production — salt pans along the coast have been harvested by local communities for generations. The population is roughly 15,000, and the economy centres on salt harvesting, fishing, and subsistence farming.
The climate is hot and arid, with temperatures averaging 28–34°C (82–93°F) and limited rainfall outside the rainy season (April–June, August–October). The landscape is flat and dry, with salt flats, mangroves, and scrubland.
