Gros-Morne
Artibonite, Haiti
Why visit Gros-Morne?
Gros-Morne is a mountainous commune in the northern part of the Artibonite department, located in the highlands between Gonaïves and the Nord department. The town sits at an elevation of approximately 500 m (1,640 ft), surrounded by forests, coffee plantations, and subsistence farms. The population is roughly 25,000, and the economy centres on agriculture — coffee, beans, maize, and root crops.
The climate is cooler than the lowland plains, with temperatures averaging 20–27°C (68–81°F). The landscape is rugged, with steep hillsides and valleys. Gros-Morne serves as a gateway to the northern interior and the transition zone between the Artibonite and Nord departments.
