Why visit Siteki?
Siteki is the administrative capital of the Lubombo Region, perched on the Lubombo plateau with views back west toward the country's central mountains. Its name means "marrying place," from a proclamation by King Mbandzeni (r. 1875–1889) that allowed his troops to marry here; the settlement grew as one of the country's earliest colonial-era towns, drawing settlers via the old trade route to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo). It was upgraded from a Town Board to a full Town Council in 1993 and today functions as a market town and regional administrative center serving the surrounding rural Lubombo lowveld.
