Lugongolweni is a small rural settlement in the Lubombo region of eastern Eswatini, located in the lowveld plains south-east of Siteki. It lies within the traditional authority area of the Lubombo region, an area characterised by subsistence agriculture and cattle herding. The community is predominantly Swazi, with livelihoods centred on maize and cotton farming and livestock.

The landscape is typical of the Eswatini lowveld: flat to gently undulating acacia savannah, with scattered homesteads and cattle enclosures. The climate is hot and humid in summer (October to March) with heavy afternoon thunderstorms, and mild and dry in winter (May to August).

How do you get there?

By Plane

King Mswati III International Airport (SHO) is the nearest airport, about 75 km north-west. Matsapha Airport (MTS) near Manzini is about 95 km west.

By Car / Road

Lugongolweni is accessible via minor roads from Siteki (about 35 km south-east) and from Big Bend (about 15 km north). Roads are unpaved. A 4WD vehicle is recommended during the rainy season.

The settlement is small and best explored on foot. For longer trips, local trucks or donkey transport are used.
