About Mhlume

Mhlume is a town in the Lubombo region of north-eastern Eswatini, located in the sugar-growing lowveld near the South African border. The name Mhlume means "dry riverbed" in siSwati, referencing the seasonal Mhlume River that runs through the area. The town developed around the Mhlume Sugar Mill, one of the country's major sugar producers, which sits amidst vast sugar cane plantations that dominate the landscape.

The climate is hot subtropical lowveld: summers (October to March) are extremely hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, while winters (May to August) are mild, dry, and pleasant. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 40°C.
