New Administrative Capital
Al Qāhirah, Egypt
Why visit New Administrative Capital?
Egypt's New Administrative Capital is a purpose-built city about 45 km east of Cairo (east of New Cairo), planned to house government ministries, financial institutions, and eventually millions of residents, relieving pressure on Greater Cairo. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi formally took his oath of office here on 2 April 2024, marking its inauguration as the seat of government. Its skyline is anchored by the Iconic Tower, completed in 2024 at about 394 metres — the tallest building in Africa — among more than 30 skyscrapers under construction. Two major religious landmarks, both inaugurated on 6 January 2019, sit near each other: the Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, a Neo-Mamluk-style mosque on a hill with space for 17,000 worshippers, and the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, a Coptic Orthodox cathedral seating over 8,000 that is the largest church in the Middle East.
