Kavumu

Sud-Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Why visit Kavumu?

Kavumu is a town in Kabare Territory, Sud-Kivu province, about 25 km north of Bukavu, best known as the site of Kavumu (Bukavu) Airport, the principal airport serving the provincial capital. The wider area is a smallholder farming region: most households in Kabare Territory cultivate less than a hectare of land, and agriculture is the dominant livelihood alongside small-scale trade. Given the airport's strategic importance, the area has periodically been affected by the security situation in eastern DRC, including armed-group activity in the wider region; travelers should check current conditions before relying on this route.
