Amancio
Las Tunas, Cuba
Why visit Amancio?
Amancio is a small inland town in southwestern Las Tunas Province, located about 80 km southwest of the provincial capital. With a population of roughly 10,000, it is an agricultural community centred on sugar cane cultivation. The town is named after Amancio Rodríguez, a local figure associated with Cuba's revolutionary history.
The surrounding terrain is flat and devoted to sugar cane and cattle ranching. The climate is tropical, with hot summers (30–33°C) and a rainy season from May to October. The drier months from November to April are the most comfortable for visiting. Amancio has a simple layout: a central park, a church, and basic municipal buildings surrounded by low-rise residential streets.
The town sees virtually no international tourism and offers an authentic, unmediated experience of rural Cuban life.
