Jesus Menendez

Las Tunas, Cuba

Why visit Jesus Menendez?

Jesús Menéndez is a small town in northern Las Tunas Province, located near the coast of the Bay of Puerto Padre. With a population of around 8,000, it is a quiet agricultural community centred on sugar cane cultivation and fishing. The town is named after Jesús Menéndez Larrinaga, a prominent Cuban labour leader and sugar workers' organiser who was assassinated in 1948.

The town sits in flat, low-lying terrain typical of Cuba's northern coastal plain. The climate is tropical, with hot summers (30–33°C) and a rainy season from May to October. The drier months from November to April are the most comfortable for visiting. The surrounding landscape is a mix of sugar cane fields, cattle ranches, and mangrove-lined coast.

Jesús Menéndez has a simple layout: a central area with a park, a church, and basic municipal services, surrounded by residential streets and agricultural land. The town sees virtually no international tourism.
