Colombia
Las Tunas, Cuba
Why visit Colombia?
Colombia is a small town in southwestern Las Tunas Province, located about 60 km southwest of the provincial capital. Not to be confused with the South American country of the same name, this is a quiet Cuban agricultural settlement with a population of roughly 5,000. The town is set amid sugar cane fields and cattle ranches in the flat interior plains of eastern Cuba.
The town has a modest history tied to the sugar industry and the agricultural development of the region. The climate is tropical, with hot summers (30–33°C) and a rainy season from May to October. The drier months from November to April are the most comfortable for visiting.
Colombia follows the typical layout of a small Cuban rural town: a central park, a church, basic municipal buildings, and scattered residential areas. The surrounding landscape is flat and devoted to agriculture.
