Yara
Granma, Cuba
Why visit Yara?
Yara is a small town in southern Granma Province, historically significant as the site where Carlos Manuel de Céspedes issued the Grito de Yara (Cry of Yara) on 10 October 1868, marking the beginning of Cuba's independence movement. The town has a population of approximately 6,000 and retains a quiet, rural character.
The surrounding landscape is flat agricultural land, with sugarcane fields stretching in every direction. Yara sits on the road between Bayamo and Manzanillo, making it a common transit point. The town's historical significance is commemorated by a monument and a small museum.
Tropical climate with dry season November–April and rainy season May–October. The flat terrain means hot summers with little shade.
