Río Cauto is a small town in Granma Province, named after Cuba's longest river which flows through the municipality. The town has a population of approximately 4,000 and serves as a municipal seat for an agricultural area dominated by sugarcane and cattle farming. The town has a modest central area. The surrounding landscape is flat and agricultural, with the river and its tributaries providing irrigation for the sugarcane fields.

The nearest airport is in Bayamo (BYM), about 60 km southeast.

By Car / Road

Río Cauto is about 60 km northwest of Bayamo via the Carretera Central and secondary roads (approximately 1.5 hours). From Holguín, the drive is about 60 km south (1.5 hours). Local bus and colectivo services are infrequent.

The town is small and walkable. Horse-drawn carriages serve the main streets.
