Why visit Pilon?

Pilón is a small coastal town in southern Granma Province, situated on the Gulf of Guacanayabo near the entrance to the Cabo Cruz area. The town has a population of approximately 4,000 and is primarily a fishing community. Pilón serves as a base for access to the southern sections of the Desembarco del Granma National Park.

The town has a waterfront setting with fishing boats and a modest central area. The surrounding coastline features mangroves, small cays, and the dramatic limestone terraces characteristic of the national park. The area is remote and undeveloped.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is in Bayamo (BYM), about 120 km north.

By Car / Road

Pilón is about 70 km south of Manzanillo via secondary roads (approximately 1.5 hours). From Bayamo, the drive is about 120 km (2.5 hours). Roads are secondary and can be rough. A 4WD is recommended.

Pilón is small and walkable. For excursions along the coast and into the national park, arrange a boat or 4WD locally.
