About Makoua
Makoua is a small river town in northern Cuvette department, located near the Likouala-aux-Herbes River. The town serves as a local administrative post and market centre for surrounding villages. The landscape is dense equatorial rainforest, with the blackwater river providing the main transport artery. The population lives by fishing, subsistence farming, and small-scale trade.
The climate is tropical, with a rainy season (October–May) and a dry season (June–September). The unpaved access road is passable in the dry season but becomes difficult after heavy rain.
