Why visit Owando?

Owando is the capital of Cuvette department, situated on the Likouala River in central-northern Congo. The town is the main transport hub for the department, with the paved RN2 highway connecting it to Brazzaville in the south and to Ouésso in the north. Owando has a market, basic guesthouses, and a small airport. The Likouala River is used for fishing, washing, and pirogue transport.

The climate is tropical with a rainy season (October–May) and a dry season (June–September). Temperatures range from 24°C to 32°C (75–90°F).

By Plane

Owando Airport receives irregular charter flights from Brazzaville.

By Car / Road

Owando is on the RN2 highway, 350 km north of Brazzaville (5–6 hours by car). The road is paved. Shared taxis and minibuses run from Brazzaville.

By Boat

The Likouala River connects Owando to river towns in Cuvette and beyond. Pirogues and cargo barges use the river.
