Zalantun

Nei Mongol Zizhiqu, China

Why visit Zalantun?

Zalantun (扎兰屯; Zhālántún, also known as Jalantun) is a county-level city in Hulunbuir Prefecture, eastern Inner Mongolia, located on the western slopes of the Greater Khingan Mountains (Daxing'anling). Unlike the arid grasslands of central Inner Mongolia, Zalantun is lush and green, known as the "Jiangnan of the North" for its scenic rivers, forests, and temperate climate. The Yalu River (a tributary of the Nen River) flows through the city. Zalantun is a popular summer retreat for residents of nearby industrial cities such as Qiqihar and Harbin, thanks to its cool mountain air, hot springs, and forest parks. The surrounding area has the Oroqen and Daur ethnic minorities. The climate is continental, with mild summers and very cold winters. The best time to visit is June–September.
