Why visit Bayanhot?
Bayanhot (巴彦浩特; Bāyànhàotè, meaning "Rich Town" in Mongolian) is the capital of the Alxa Left Banner in western Inner Mongolia, situated at the foot of the Helan Mountains on the border with Ningxia. It is a small, pleasant desert-edge town serving as the gateway to the western Alxa League's stunning desert and grassland landscapes. The Helan Mountains to the east rise sharply, while the vast Tengger Desert stretches west. A major attraction is the Alxa Desert International Rally, which brings off-road enthusiasts from around the world. The nearby Badain Jaran Desert contains the tallest stationary sand dunes in the world, many reaching over 400 m. The climate is temperate continental with cold, dry winters and warm, dry summers. Spring and autumn are the best visiting seasons.
