Why visit Lichuan?

Lichuan (利川) is a county-level city in southwestern Hubei Province, administratively part of the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Nestled in the Wuling Mountain range, Lichuan sits at an elevation of about 1,100 m, giving it a pleasant cool climate that has earned it the nickname "Summer Capital of Hubei." The area is home to significant populations of Tujia and Miao ethnic minorities, and their cultural traditions remain vibrant in the surrounding villages.

Lichuan has a subtropical highland climate with mild summers (average 24°C) — making it an excellent escape from the lowland heat — and cold, damp winters. The best time to visit is May to September. The city has developed rapidly in recent years thanks to the completion of the Yiwan Railway, which brought tourism to its remarkable natural attractions including the massive Tenglong Cave system.
