About Suizhou

Suizhou (随州) is a prefecture-level city in northern Hubei Province, situated in the upper reaches of the Han River basin. With a history stretching back over 2,400 years, Suizhou was an important strategic city during the Zhou Dynasty and later periods. The city is renowned as the hometown of Yandi (炎帝), the legendary Flame Emperor of Chinese mythology, and is also famous for its ancient chime bells (bianzhong) — a complete set of 65 bronze bells from the Marquis Yi of Zeng was discovered here in 1978.

Suizhou has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons. The city is greener and less industrialised than many of its Hubei counterparts, with the surrounding countryside featuring rolling hills, rivers, and agricultural land. The urban area is centred around Zengdu District.
