Kumba

South-West, Cameroon

Why visit Kumba?

Kumba, in Meme Division of Cameroon's South-West Region, is the region's largest town after Buea, roughly 65 km north-northwest of Douala. Its name comes from the Bafaw word for an umbrella tree, and it grew from a small Bafaw village into a major commercial hub for cocoa, palm oil, and rubber grown in the surrounding forest zone. Just outside town is Lake Barombi Mbo, Cameroon's largest volcanic crater lake and one of the oldest radiocarbon-dated lakes in Africa.
