Limbe

South-West, Cameroon

Why visit Limbe?

Limbe is a coastal city in Fako Division, South-West Region, at the foot of Mount Cameroon on the Gulf of Guinea. It is known for its black-sand beaches — volcanic sand from Mount Cameroon, which last erupted in 2000 — and for two long-running conservation institutions: the Limbe Botanic Garden, founded in 1892 and one of the oldest botanical gardens in Africa, with over 1,500 plant species; and the Limbe Wildlife Centre, established in 1993 as a joint project between the Cameroonian government and the Pandrillus Foundation to rehabilitate rescued primates, drawing around 45,000 visitors a year.
