Lukovit (Bulgarian: Луковит) is a town in northern Bulgaria, part of Lovech Province. It sits on both banks of the Zlatna Panega River between the Danubian Plain and the foot of Stara Planina. Population about 9,600. First mentioned in Ottoman registers of 1430, the town is known for the Lukovit Treasure — silver horse brasses from the 4th century BC Thracian culture discovered nearby in 1953.

By Plane

The nearest airports are Sofia (about 110 km south) and Plovdiv (about 170 km southeast).

By Train

Lukovit has a railway station on the line from Sofia to Gorna Oryahovitsa via Mezdra. Regular trains connect to Sofia, Pleven, and Lovech.

By Car / Road

Lukovit is on National Road 3 connecting Sofia (about 110 km south) to Pleven (about 50 km north). It is about 30 km north of Lovech.

The town is compact and walkable. The Zlatna Panega River divides the town into northern and southern parts.
