Apriltsi

Apriltsi (Bulgarian: Априлци) is a small town in Lovech Province, central-north Bulgaria, located in a valley at the foot of Botev Peak, the highest summit of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina). Founded by merging four mountain villages — Novo Selo, Zla Reka, Vidima, and Ostrets — it has a population of about 2,600 and is a developing tourist resort with preserved 19th-century Bulgarian houses.

By Plane

The nearest airports are Sofia (about 150 km southwest) and Plovdiv (about 130 km south).

By Train

The nearest railway station is in Lovech (about 30 km north), with connections to Pleven and Sofia. Local buses connect Apriltsi to Lovech.

By Car / Road

Apriltsi is accessible via National Road 35 from Lovech (30 km north) and via mountain roads from Troyan and Karlovo.

The town is spread across four neighbourhoods, each with a distinct character. Local minibuses connect the neighbourhoods. Walking is the best way to explore.

Small family-run guesthouses and hotels cater to hikers and nature tourists.
