Kobryn
Bresckaja voblasć, Belarus
Why visit Kobryn?
Kobryn is a town of about 50,000 on the Mukhavets River, 50 km east of Brest along the main highway and rail line. First mentioned in the 12th century, it later belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and to the estate granted by Catherine the Great to Russian field-marshal Alexander Suvorov in 1795 — the legacy that gives Kobryn its single most-visited attraction, the Suvorov Museum, set in the estate house where the general spent his retirement.
The town centre preserves a quiet 19th-century scale, a couple of fine churches, and a pleasant park along the Mukhavets, and makes a logical half-day stop between Brest and Pinsk or on the way to Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Climate is continental; best visited May–September.
