Aghali

Aghali is a village in the Zəngilan District of southern Azerbaijan, located near the Aras River and the Iranian border, about 10 km south of Zangilan town. After the region was returned to Azerbaijani control in 2020, Aghali was chosen as a pilot "smart village" project, rebuilt from scratch with modern infrastructure, energy-efficient housing, and digital services. It is one of the first reconstructed settlements in the liberated territories.

The climate is mild continental with warm summers and cool winters. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit.

Aghali is notable not for historical sights but as a model of post-conflict reconstruction and rural modernisation.

By Plane

The nearest major airport is Nakhchivan International Airport (NAJ), about 140 km north-west. Official authorisation is required for travel in border areas.

By Car / Road

Aghali is reached via the road from Zangilan (10 km) or from Horadiz (40 km). The road was rebuilt as part of the reconstruction project.

The village is compact and walkable, with a modern layout.
