Zəngilan

Zəngilan is a rayon in southwestern Azerbaijan, bordering Armenia and Iran, situated in the lowlands and foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. The district has been one of the most strategically significant areas in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts, having been under Armenian control from the early 1990s until its recapture by Azerbaijani forces in October 2020. The administrative center is the city of Zəngilan, which is undergoing extensive reconstruction. Zəngilan is accessible by road from Baku (approximately 400 km, 5–6 hours) via the M2 highway and the road through Jabrayil. The district is also connected to other Karabakh region towns by road. Road conditions have been improving as reconstruction progresses, but access may be restricted in some areas. Local transport consists of taxis and walking.
