Why visit Tugh?

Tugh is a historic village in the Xocavənd District of Azerbaijan, located in the mountainous Karabakh region about 15 km north of Hadrut and 30 km south of Khankendi. The village has a long history dating back to the medieval period, evidenced by its well-preserved stone architecture, including the 18th-century Tugh Church (Surb Stepanos) and the remains of a fortress.

The area was part of the cultural landscape of historic Karabakh, with Armenian and Caucasian Albanian heritage. Tugh came under Azerbaijani control in 2023 after the restoration of Azerbaijani sovereignty over the region.

The climate is mild continental, with warm summers and cold winters. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit.

Tugh is small but historically significant, making it a worthwhile stop for those exploring the Karabakh region's cultural heritage.
