Why visit Hadrut?
Hadrut is a town in the Xocavənd District of Azerbaijan, located in the rugged terrain of the Lesser Caucasus in Karabakh. It lies on the Goris–Stepanakert road, about 40 km south of Khankendi. The area has been inhabited since medieval times and contains several historical Armenian and Caucasian Albanian monuments.
The town was heavily affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, changing hands multiple times before coming under Azerbaijani control in 2023. Reconstruction and resettlement efforts are ongoing.
The climate is mild continental with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Spring and autumn are the best visiting seasons.
Hadrut has limited tourist infrastructure but is historically rich, with several old churches and fortifications in the surrounding area.

By Plane
The nearest major airport is Ganja International Airport (GNJ), about 180 km north-west (3 hours by car). Travel requires official authorisation.
By Car / Road
Hadrut is located on the main road between Khankendi and the border area. The road from Khankendi takes about 40 minutes. Travel in this region requires official permission.
Hadrut is walkable. A 4WD vehicle is recommended for exploring the district's many historical sites in the surrounding hills and valleys.
