Why visit Jalilabad?

Jalilabad is a town in southeastern Azerbaijan, serving as the administrative centre of the Cəlilabad District. Located approximately 200 km southwest of Bakı, near the border with Iran, it lies in a transitional zone between the dry Mugan Plain and the more humid, forested foothills of the Talysh Mountains. The town was known as Astrakhan-Bazar until 1967, reflecting its historical role as a regional trading centre. Today, it is a modest but growing agricultural hub, known for its subtropical climate and tea plantations.

The climate is humid subtropical — milder and wetter than most of Azerbaijan, with hot summers (28–35 °C) and mild winters (2–10 °C). Spring is particularly lush, with the surrounding hillsides turning green.
